Some graphics during the first wave of experimentation that combined my painterly aesthetic with a more informational/textual purpose. I'm heavily inspired by the new-wave of almost utilitarian, minimalist graphics created by Gen-Z activist platforms such as @intersectionalenvironmentalist and definitely drew inspiration from those styles in my use of shapes and typefaces.
I made these graphics for my spirit group at UT Austin (@txlassos on Instagram) during the winter storm that hit Texas in mid-February. I wanted to use my skills to consolidate information floating around social media to create an actionable resource guide for my community. I researched the information and made sure it was as accurate as possible, wrote the copy, and created the overall design while incorporating the Texas Lassos' blue and yellow brand colours so these posts would fit with the rest of the feed.
I also created these graphics mid-storm as I felt some sense of "survivor's guilt" for not having lost too much during the storm yet still not staying productive through it all; I felt that it was important to remind others (like my friends reminded me) that during times of crisis, anxiety and stress make it hard to work, so I should provide myself some grace no matter the circumstances.
