Context
The Festival of the Moving Image (FOMI) is an annual film festival run by University College London's Film & TV Society, a long-running organisation with notable past alumni, including director Christopher Nolan and broadcaster Jonathan Ross.
Brief
As the festival was expanding its audience to students all over London in 2022, I was recruited by Isobel Binnie, the festival's director, to refresh its brand identity and make it more accessible to newcomers.
Initial Pitch
I created a mood board and three style tests in advance of my first meeting with Isobel. She wanted to move away from FOMI's previous black-and-white aesthetic, so I drew on a broad range of bright colours and playful type to evoke movement. After deliberation, Isobel ended up choosing the "Postmodern" concept as our baseline. 
Concerns
Although playful, energetic type was the focus of our chosen concept, we had to be careful to keep text readable—especially when conveying important information. I made sure to send progress updates to the team so we could adjust the designs as necessary.
Work-In-
Progress
I created the profile picture for FOMI's social media pages as well as the festival's poster (which also doubled as the cover of their sponsorship booklet). Various versions were trialed and updated based on feedback each round. The rightmost images were chosen as finals.
Brochure
I was also involved in redesigning FOMI's sponsorship brochure, which was sent off to prospective partners around London. I updated the information in accordance with the festival's new brand identity and distilled complex information into easy-to-read lists and tables. 
Socials
Another crucial aspect of my involvement was creating assets for FOMI's Instagram profile to increase brand visibility among the target age group (university students). I created the baseline templates for these posts and social stories and shared them with the FOMI team so they could have the full flexibility to edit them as needed.

Result
The visual identity I created was deployed during FOMI's Instagram account launch, gaining 300+ followers over the course of the 2022 event cycle. See my designs in action at @fomiucl!
